Importer Exporter Code (IEC)
Import Export Code is a PAN based business identification number issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India.
IEC Code is a license issued to persons importing or exporting goods and services in / from India. It is mandatorily required for import or export of any type of goods by a business, except goods imported or exported for personal use. However, it is not necessary for import or export of services in / from India.
IEC is a onetime registration which is valid till the business exists or the registration is revoked / surrendered. Thus, it is not required to be renewed. Importers and exporters are not required to do any further filing or any other compliances after receiving the Code.

Registration Process
Importer Exporter Registration in India is an online. The steps for registration are:
- Visit and Register on the DGFT website
- Fill all the required details such as name, address, bank details, etc. in Aayaat Niryaat Form (ANF) No.2A
- Upload scanned copies of relevant documents
- Pay fees online
- Preview and Print Application for own record purpose
- Submit Form online
- After verifying the details in application and documents uploaded, DGFT office will send PDF copy of IEC Certificate on the registered email id
